Parents As Teachers is a home visitation program that promotes parent involvement in language and intellectual growth, as well as motor and social skills. Parent Educators visit with families in their homes and provide learning activities based on the age and stage of development of the child. Parent Educators provide information on stages of child development, language skills, health screening, as well as parenting guidance, tips on home safety, and strategies for effective discipline. Monthly Group Connections and Play Groups are offered monthly and provide families the opportunity to meet others and learn/socialize in a relaxed enviroment. Parent Educators are certified by the Parents As Teachers National Center and meet ongoing competency-based training. Children's Home Society currently has two Parent Educators providing services in Wood County. Children's Home Society is pleased to announce that Parent As Teachers will be expanding into Ritchie County and Calhoun County in 2015.
